Colley named Gambia’s best foreign-based athlete

Sampdoria defender and Scorpions captain Omar Colley has been named the country’s best foreign-based athlete of the year at the 10th edition of the national sports award night and gala organised by the Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG).

The award, held at the weekend, saw dignitaries such as the country’s First Lady and Senegal’s Sports Minister amongst others, in attendance to witness the awarding and celebration of past and present sports personalities.

Dibba nets in Shenxin loss

Gambia forward Pa Amat Dibba was on the losing end at the weekend despite scoring in Shanghai Shenxin’s 4-2 home loss against Guangdong Southern Tigers.

Dibba, who scored his first Shenxin goal last month, levelled the scores at 2-2 as the home side trail but two second half goals from the visitors ensured they suffer their second successive defeat.

Hawks climb in standings after PSV win

Hawks FC made it four wins on the bounce as they secured a 4-1 triumph over PSV Wellingara 4-1 in the ongoing national league Division One.

The match, played at the KG5 mini stadium in Banjul, saw them move up to fourth on the standings with 29 points after 19 matches.

Touray nets as Salford push for promotion

Scorpions left-back Ibou Touray was on the scoring sheet for Salford City who continued their push for the National League (fifth-tier) title with a decisive 3-0 victory over Maidenhead United at the weekend.

The 24-year-old, who starred in the Gambia’s 1-1 draw in Algeria in the final round of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last month, extended Salford’s lead after 27 minutes before Adam Rooney’s goal established a comfortable 3-0 interval lead.
