Colley earns Allegri praise for MOM performance against Juve

Gambia defender Omar Colley has been praised by Massimiliano Allegri for his Man Of the Match performance that saw him deny Cristiano Ronaldo a hat trick in Sampdoria’s 2-1 loss against Italian Serie A leaders Juventus.

The Scorpions international, who was handed his seventh start of the campaign, blocked the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s shot after trailing 2-1 to deny the Portuguese international the chance for a treble, an action that saw the Juve boss make special mention in his post-match comments.

“Ronaldo is the best player in the world,” Allegri said before adding that “[goalkeeper] Emil Audero did brilliantly to push his shot onto the bar, as did [Omar] Colley to save his header!”

The match was unarguably the 26-year-old’s biggest in his career and despite the result, was grateful for the experience.

“Great experience today but we keep our head high for the great performance. Thanks to our traveling fans for the support,” he wrote on social media after the game.

Sampdoria are seventh on the 20-team Serie A table with 29 points, two behind AC Milan and one behind AS Roma.
