Barrow reveals reason behind goal drought

Gambia striker Musa Barrow says the reason behind his recent goal drought in the Italian Serie A this season for Atalanta is due to defenders tight-marking him.

The 20-year-old, whose last goal for Atalanta came in the club’s 4-1 win at Israeli club Hapoel Haifa in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Europa League on August 9, has gone eleven Serie A matches without finding the back of the net.

The former Hawks striker, who netted three league goals in 12 appearances last season, has finally broken his silence on a lack of goals saying opposing defenders rarely give him space when with the ball.

“Why have not I scored in the Serie A this year yet? The defenders have learned to know me, they know that if they give me the space on the pitch, I can be dangerous. Everything was easier a year ago.”

He added: “I had a strong start and I’m happy with what I did in the pre-season but it’s all gone by now and I’d like to start scoring goals in the championship.”

Barrow was recently awarded with the Federico Pisani, a gong given to the young best player in Atalanta.
