Gambian clubs booted out of CAF

Gambian sides GAF and Gamtel have been knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Champions League respectively after lacklustre performances in midweek.

The Gambia Armed Forces, who needed a goalless draw to sail through to the next round after drawing 1-1 in Ivory Coast with FC San Pédro, were edged through Ghanaian Nana Antwi Manu’s lone goal on Tuesday evening, advancing through a 2-1 aggregate victory.

Meanwhile, Gamtel FC, who secured a drab goalless draw last week in Algeria against CS Constantine, also failed in their qualification task as Ismaïl Belkacemi’s strike was enough to send them out of the CAF Champions League.

The defeats of both sides means a continued wait for a Gambian team to make it through the group stages of any CAF Club competitions.
