Goalkeeper Sam Jammeh nominated for award

Gambia international Sam Jammeh has been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award in the Swedish Division 2.

The 26-year-old Scorpions net-minder has been named in a three-man shortlist after the nominations were announced for Division 2 Norra Götaland Awards, organised by Unibet on Tuesday.

Jammeh’s nomination follows a hugely impressive season in the Swedish fourth-tier where he mustered eight clean sheets in 24 league appearances for IK Gauthiod, guiding them to third place on the standings with two games left to spare.

“I’m so happy and proud to be nominated for the best keeper of the league award,” the Scorpions international said.

Should Sam scoop the award, he will rake home 15,000 Swedish Krona, 10,000 of which will be given to the club.

The Finland-born player joined IK Gauthiod this season from their fourth-tier rivals Säffle FF where his brilliant performances saw him keep more than ten clean sheets despite the team falling short of promoting to Division 1.

The 1.86m tall keeper started his professional at his country of birth with FC Viikingit, Atlantis FC and FF Jaro before making a move to Sweden to join Ängebäck BK, IFK Sunne and Säffle FF respectively.

He attracted interest from teams in England and Sweden but no concrete interest was forthcoming and thus signing on the dotted lines for Gauthiod, a club based in the Västra Götaland County of Grästorp.
