Gambian refs for Ethiopia vs. Kenya clash

A trio of Gambian referees will take charge of Ethiopia’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Kenya on Wednesday.

Three-time CAF referee of the year, Bakary Papa Gassama, will be the central referee to officiate the tie at the 60,000-capacity Bahir Dar International Stadium located in the north-western part of Ethiopia.

Papa will be assisted by compatriots Sulayman Sosseh and Abdul Aziz Bollel Jawo.

The highly competent Gassama, who officiated the Group C match between Peru and Denmark at this year’s FIFA World Cup, was in charge of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final return leg match between Egypt’s Al-Masry SC and DR Congo’s AS Vita Club last Wednesday in Port Said.

The Walias of Ethiopia are currently third in Group F with three points after two outings while the Harambee Stars of Kenya are atop the standings on goal difference.
