Genoa sign Gambian youngster and loan him to Arezzo

Italian Serie A club Genoa have confirmed that they have signed Gambian defender Fallou Njie who is immediately farmed out on loan to Serie C side Unione Sportiva Arezzo.

The Red and Blues signed the 19-year-old on a five-year contract from fourth-tier club ASD Calcio Chieri where he scored twice in 12 appearances.

But with first-team football at Genoa set to be hard to come by, they have decided to send him on loan to third-tier Arezzo for more playing opportunities.

His loan, which commenced on July 13th, will see him stay on at the Tuscany-based club until the end of the season in June 2019.

“I’m happy here, it’s like a family,” the 1.86m defender said immediately after putting pen-to-paper.

The Bundung-born right-footed central defender had a short stint with the youth side of Italian giants AC Milan after arriving in Italy by boat three years ago.

“I really like Giorgio Chiellini and I would like to be as strong as him,” he was quoted as saying in 2016.
