Gambia held by CAR in international friendly

The Scorpions were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Central African Republic in an international friendly played at the Independence Stadium on Friday evening.

The Gambia, led out by technical director-cum coach Sang Ndong, were boosted by the presence of Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow but the attendance of the First Lady of the Republic of The Gambia did little for the Scorpions who faltered to deceive with the two sides heading into the locker room goalless at half-time.

It wasn’t until in the 58th minute that the hosts took the lead. A counter inside the CAR area saw captain Pa Modou Jagne tripped in the box with striker Assan Ceesay stepping up to convert a rebound after his kick was earlier saved.

But Gambia’s lead only lasted for seventeen minutes as the Wild Beasts leveled in controversial circumstances through Foxi Kéthévoama with the ball appearing to hit the side netting.

The match was the final preparation game for the Scorpions ahead of its 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria in September.
