The 2017/18 Gambia Football Federation First Division league got underway at the weekend with some surprises.
The big winners were promoted Banjul United who edged Bombada 2-1 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday to go top of the standings in Week 1.
Manjai-based and last year’s league runners-up Marimoo FC stunned Real de Banjul on Saturday at the Independence Stadium with a 1-0 defeat of the City Boys who are under the guidance of new coach Majorr Saine.
Sulayman Kuyateh meanwhile got off to a bright start as head coach of Gamtel with a 1-0 win over FA Cup and Super Cup winners Hawks FC at the Serrekunda East mini stadium on Saturday.
In Sunday’s other results, promoted side Fortune held Brikama United to a 1-1 draw at the Box-Bar mini stadium while Tallinding United slugged out a 1-1 draw with Steve Biko at the SK East.
Gambia Ports Authority’s clash with defending Champions Gambia Armed Forces meanwhile was rescheduled for Tuesday after the Box-Bar in Brikama was in use for a Nawettan final.
