Gambian boxer Patrick Mendy secured the WBA Super Middleweight title after beating Russian Dmitry Chudinov at the Frederiksberg Hallerne in Copenhagen on Saturday.
Dubbed “Tiger”, the 28-year-old Gambian who has won 18 fights in 33 bouts, beat the former WBA super middleweight champ Chudinov, over eight and it was a clear win where Mendy got off first with his dangerous left staggering the ex-champ a number of times.
The Russian, nicknamed the “Night Wolf”, had his left eye almost swollen shut by the third and it gave him problems and he kept missing and overall looked too slow.
However the former champ kept trying and kept coming forward with Mendy outboxing him shooting off his left hook with the score being 80-72 and 79-73 twice, according to Per Ake Persson of the Boxingscene.
The two faced off in a non title eight rounder after fighting to a draw in England back in 2014.
Chudinov was first set to fight Jeppe Morell but the Danish southpaw pulled out with Tiger Mendy supposed to be a sparring partner for Morell.
Patrick, the youngest ever prizefighter winner at the age of 19 years and 276 days, will be returning to Denmark in the near future to defend his title.
